For MLK Day 2021, Let’s Make America Kind Again #MAKA

“Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.” –Martin Luther King Jr. (1929–68), American Baptist minister and civil rights leader

Today, January 18, 2021, is Martin Luther King Jr. (MLK) Day in these United States. It is also a federal holiday that celebrates the achievements of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., an influential American Baptist minister and civil rights leader.

The MLK Holiday could not come at a better time following a fire dumpster of a year in 2020 that brought us the COVID-19 global pandemic which has claimed more than 2 million lives to date and has also created economic chaos for so many countries and people.

No sooner than we thought we could breathe a little after ushering in a New Year, we witnessed an attack on the United States government by unhappy citizens – insurgents, rioters, and terrorists – who were motivated by many things including the fact that their candidate was not successful in his re-election bid for the White House in November 2020.

Traditionally, there are numerous events planned across this country such as marches, parades, breakfasts and lunches, etc., to honor the legacy of Dr. King. That won’t happen this year because many events have been canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, however, some activities are being offered in a virtual format.

I’m asking everyone who reads this column to remember the legacy of Dr. King, and to work with me and others to Make America Kind Again (#MAKA). What happened at the United States Capitol Building in Washington, DC on January 6, 2021, should not ever happen again. Thank God, this experiment in democracy remained in tact, despite the assault by misguided haters.

Therefore, if you can be anything in the world today, why not be kind? Make America Kind Again #MAKA

“We need leaders not in love with money but justice, not in love with publicity but humanity.” – Martin Luther King, Jr
