Pi Day 2022 is almost here!

One of my favorite calendar events of the year is Pi Day or March 14th (03/14). In case you are not aware, the first three digits of the mathematical constant, π, is 3.14! I consider Pi Day to be a mathematical holiday and an excellent time for STEM folks to educate the world about one of the world’s most recognizable math constants and the many ways that it can be used at work or in our daily lives – all while having fun doing so. Here some other interesting Pi calendar facts: Pi (π) is the ratio of any circle’s circumference to its diameter. Its value is approximately equal to 3.14159265. It is an irrational number, which means it cannot be expressed as a ratio of whole numbers, and its decimal representation never ends or repeats.

Here are some more pi related calendar facts:

  • March 4: The day marks the passing of 14% of the 3rd month of the year.
  • April 5: By this day, 3.14 months of the year have passed.
  • November 10: The 314th day of the year (November 9 in leap years).

Pi deals are appearing in news and other social media. From USAToday, “You don’t have to be a math scholar to be acutely aware that Pi Day equals deals on circular food.” That is so true. Check out some of the deals listed in USAToday, CNET and The Mercury News. Here are two of my favorites:

Carnation Pi Day Deal: Carnation is giving fans a chance to win “Cow Pies,” which feature Carnation Evaporated Milk, cocoa and more through Monday. Ten people will win the prize worth $20 each, according to the contest fine print. Enter at Play.keeplifedelicious.com/Carnation-pie-day.
